I'm sure many of my fellow dA armorers have experienced that sideways glance you get when you show a friend your gallery full of fictional weapons...like they're wondering if they should call the police and warn them of a potential mass shooter, though they're confused because you don't seem like a violent person.

Well, that's because we're NOT violent people, at least not most of us.  If we would only draw a space marine blowing the head off of an alien, that would be cool; but, somehow, drawing the gun by itself is disturbing to many... It makes no sense to me.

Maybe it's because I have more of an eye for the technical than the organic, and guns are more fun to draw than power tools.  Maybe I like the functionality of the things.  Maybe it's because I spent a great deal of my childhood playing first-person shooters.

Whatever the reason, I draw guns...and I mean you no harm.

i feel exactly the same, and i'm sure many others do as well. thanks you for posting this.
i live in brazil, where it is almost impossible to own a gun legally. and did it reduce crime? nope, it only increased.
and well, it's not even real guns we make here, it is fictional guns. i mean, why should someone be judged by what they like to drawn? i don't like guns because they kill, i like them because of the aesthetics and all the mechanisms. i can't help it, i'm an introverted nerdy type of person and i just love to know how things work. sure, a swiss clock is complex and has interesting mechanisms as well, but it is so boring...

I was told in high school by family that my pictures make me the kind of person that educators look out for. I don't consider my self a violent person, I just really like the camaraderie and aesthetics that come with gun culture.

I also find myself very peeved when I look at comics and see unrealistic weapons, be they real or imagined, so I do my best to reference real pieces for details.

Thanks for posting this, it's a feeling that many of us gun artists have!

It's gun porn.
Like all porn, it's scary at first. :P

It's the same as a beautiful home, a stong friend, or a automobile: there is power in having access to weapons, and we can appreciate their attributes.

Car enthusiasts, planes, boats, insects, dolls, architecture, fashion etc .... and gun nerds just like any other subject of interest.  But it doesn't help when the media actively portrays gun owners in negative manners.

As for me, it's just a childish fascination with them, I started making models of guns for game customization, but it's since grown on me a fun way to pass time and make some neat pieces of art that I could use in my own game eventually.

That's how I got started too.

I remember when I was 8 or 9, making strategy guides for games I had made up, like fake clones of Mortal Kombat and Doom.

Reported on my journal, with a slight tweak...

It's a shame nobody outside of us can understand our likes...
